Building Projection Project (City of Cambridge): Underwater Submarine
The projection project was an animation I did for my client the ‘City of Cambridge.’ I was given the task to illustrate and add motion to an animation that would be projected onto the Old Post Office in Galt. The theme given was happiness. The client's goal was for the animation to bring viewers joy during the pandemic. For this project I decided to go with an underwater submarine scene. I chose this because the bright colours help to bring happiness and will catch people’s attention. I added different colourful fish that brought fun and variety that would be appreciated by the audience. I also added a shark at the end of the animation to bring excitement. When my animation was projected it stood out with its slow exaggerated movements that helped to create the underwater feel and achieved the feeling of happiness. A challenge I faced with this project was making the movements of the animation slow enough to translate well through the projection onto the building. I was able to overcome this challenge by getting feedback and tips from both my professor and the client. Then applying the timing recommendations into the animation. Overall, the ‘Happiness’ submarine ocean exploration animation was successful by having appropriate colours and story that captured the theme. As well as the timing of the animation exaggerate ocean movement and translate well onto the building.
