Grid Layout/Editorial: Philip Johnson Glass House
In my Design Studio class I was given the project ‘Grid Layout/Editorial’ where I had the task to create my own editorial for a magazine. The objective of this project is to explore the use of a grid to compose cohesive layouts that communicate a visual narrative — in the style of a magazine feature editorial. The narrative explored the topic of an architect and a building. The project was an individual assignment that lasted four weeks. For my editoral I choose Philip Johnson and his famous house he created called the 'Glass House'. I created a two illustratons for my pages. The first one was technical illustration of the house itself from a 3/4 view. My second one was a perspective drawing of the kitchen and living room. I used Illustrator to create both of these. I found many large images I used to bring attention and repressent what the article was about. I created my own grid for my pages that used two columns to organize the article. This project helped me to strengthen my time management skills. I created weekly deadlines to have different pieces finished to have ample time for feedback from my professor. Overall, I was able to create a grid that worked well for my editorial pages.
