Grieving Wolves

Project: Themed Illustration.

Class: Design Studio.

Semester: Summer Assignment.

In this series, the strong, complicated overwhelming feeling of grief is tackled through the visual juxtaposition of wolves interacting with hands in a tarot style composition. The series portrays wolves interacting with red stylized hands, each composition conveying different ‘stages’ of grief, as well as the visual struggle with emotions.

The hands visually represent the emotion of grief, and how the ‘stage’ of grief can be perceived or felt, whether this be through violent and aggressive interactions, or more calm and emotive interactions. This is demonstrated through the Bargaining, Anger, Denial compositions while Depression are completely ensconced by the hands. However, the final illustration in the series Acceptance shows the hands not even touching the wolf, instead surrounding the wolf as a halo- this represents the acceptance and growth that comes with moving forward with grief.
